Great Habits are Products
Start treating your habits as products and you will see a transformation.
Why does one use Great Products?
The product is actually great and you really want it / it has a high NPS
The product has marketed / branded itself well
There is a reason you feel like having a Samosa or a Kitkat in the evening. It’s a bad habit. Now your ‘good habit’ product needs to compete with this ‘bad habit’ product.
Things become really simple when you look at it this way.
When you’re trying to exercise more and you find it really difficult to sustain then maybe the ‘good habit’ product is bad. And what will be the product in the case of exercise: mode of workout.
Try to find a physical activity you really love and then add a gamification layer to it and then include your friends in it and then track it. You should love the product. You should love the type of workout, who you do it with. The NPS should be really high.
And then what’s left? You need to market it to yourself. Like every other product tries to market to you via social media, TV etc. Your ‘good habit’ product needs to reach you through notifications, calendars, pictures, whatsapp groups - whatever it takes.
Start posting a picture post your workout in your family group - creates a ritual. Now you will be reminded of your ‘good habit’ product the moment you miss out on posting a picture. Your family / friends group will market your ‘good habit’ product back to you :)
Make a great product for the habit you want to develop. And then figure out a way to get the product marketed back to you.
